Is it possible to continue growing taller after the age of 20?
At some point you probably fantasized about that… until you heard that after a certain age your growth plates fuse, and therefore it is no longer possible to grow taller?
Or is it?
Fortunately for you, there actually is a way that this obstacle can be overcome in order to add extra inches onto your height, after you have passed puberty.
This exact method was what I used to add 3.7 inches on to my height when I was in my late twenties.
In this article, I will be showing how it is scientifically possible in a step-by-step guide that will explain precisely how you can grow taller following puberty.
Is Growing Taller After Puberty Scientifically Possible?
Before going into all of the details of how to grow taller following puberty, it is a very good idea to have an understanding of the basic principles that make it possible.
That will enable you to understand fully the importance of every step in the process that I will be showing you in this article.
So, let’s return to the all-important question: Is is actually possible to get taller after reaching puberty?
I have both bad news and good news for you.
The bad news is that it is true that after puberty, your growth plates really do fully fuse. This results in a majority of the bones inside of your body do plateau in growth at that point. However, the good news is that mechanism doesn’t take place in every single part of your skeletal system… which is your spine.
Your spine is actually quite malleable, and if the right techniques are applied, its length can be increased.
Therefore, the key to growing taller, even after most of your bones have reached full development, is making your spine grow longer.
You might be wondering at this point how that is possible?
Your Spine’s Basic Anatomy
Your spine is actually not a bone; instead, it is a series of bones. So, in order for your spine to grow longer, it has to go through a completely different process than what your bones go through.
Your spine is comprised of 33 individual bones and they are connected to one another. The vertebral body is one bone in your spine.
Each of the 24 upper vertebral bodies is divided by an intervertebral disc. Therefore, there are 23 intervertebral discs in total in your spine.
Intervertebral Disc Malleability
Your intervertebral disc is comprised of dense collagen fiber layers.
They do not “fuse” or solidify with the vertebral bodies they are attached to, unlike growth plates within your bones. Therefore their structure and size are malleable at all times.
Just think if there was a way to increase a vertebral disc’s height by just 0.1 inch. That doesn’t seem like a lot does it?
However, just think if every one of your intervertebral discs increased by 0.1 inch in height? That would be a total gain of 2.3 inches!
There isn’t any scientific proof that states that 0.1 inch is the absolute limit of how much your height can be increased for each of your intervertebral discs, so there are endless possibilities.
Therefore, the real questions, how do you make this process actually work?
Lengthen Your Spine In 3 Stages
There are 3 easy stages that you have to go through to increase the height on each of your spine’s intervertebral discs, which can result in your spine lengthening:
The following is an overview of the 3 main steps:
Step 1: Fix your spine’s alignment
A majority of people these days have unhealthy and poor postures, due to their sedentary lifestyles.
This results in the curve of their spines increasing, which conversely decrease their spine’s height, and therefore their overall height as well.
The first step that you need to take in order to grow taller is reducing the curve in your spine.
Fortunately, just by fixing your posture, a majority of individuals can gain one or two inches instantly, since their postures are so badly out of alignment. Even more important, your intervertebral discs are not able to grow if your spine does not have a straight alignment, since any abnormal curve of your spine keeps the discs compressed, which prevents them from having the ability to grow.
Fortunately for you, it is easy to fix your posture with just one easy exercise.
Step 2: Maintain your spine’s new structure
After you fix your spine’s alignment, you then have to ensure that your spine’s new alignment is maintained.
Achieving a goal is one thing, but maintaining that goal is a completely different story.
You need to ensure that everything you do throughout the course of the day helps you with maintaining your fixed posture.
We will be covering a couple of simple tips and exercise that you can incorporate into your lifestyle quite easily.
Step 3: Increasing your spine’s length
After your posture is fixed and your spine’s new alignment is maintained, it is simply a matter of time before your inter-vertebral discs will grow in height and that will make you taller ultimately.
That is the most important step of all, since that is when you will see the biggest height increase over the whole process. This is also the easiest part of the entire process, since it is mainly a by-product of getting your first two steps perfected properly, with a couple of additional steps after that.
So now that we have a good idea of what the 3 steps look like, we can go into further detail.
